The symposium "Soundscape of the Future: outHEAR New Music Week is a dynamic platform for exploring the evolving intersections of sound, form and creativity in contemporary music. The three-day event, hosted under the auspices of the Department of Music Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, aims to promote the interdisciplinary exchange of ideas between established composers and composers at the early stage of their careers, offering a space for innovative dialogue on the future of music creation in a rapidly changing artistic landscape. The symposium focuses on the relationship between sound and material, embracing a wide range of creative approaches - from the transformation of found objects into musical expression to the role of silence and space in composition, highlighting the complex relationship between form and creativity in music today.
The variety of topics reflects the symposium's aim to bridge theoretical, compositional and interpretive perspectives, ultimately contributing to a deeper understanding of the way contemporary music evolves beyond cultural, technological and conceptual boundaries. Bringing together composers from different countries and cultural backgrounds, the symposium provides a critical platform for discussing the artistic, pedagogical and technical challenges of the future, encouraging a progressive vision of music composition and interdisciplinary creativity. Through this rich exchange, the symposium promotes not only the development of new ideas but also the cultivation of a community that values both experimentation and the profound potential of music as a material and conceptual art form.
